Petrol, diesel consumption in Sept., 2009 falls

KARACHI: Countrywide petrol and diesel consumption during September, 2009 registered a record fall. Oil industry sources told that the volume of petrol sale in September tallied 145000 tons as against 17600 tons in August, while the September diesel consumption was seen at 445000 tons as compared to 615000 tons in August. Sources said that the dealers apprehending possible cut in petrol and diesel prices and due to the fall in consumption during Ramazan made much less purchases, which reflected in the record decline in sale. Industry sources told that heavy pressure was seen in purchases on 1st of October, following the reduction in prices of petroleum products, as the dealers bought 10000 tons of petrol and 30000/35000 tons of diesel in one day.
